UTEP Postgame Notes

  • Tonight's attendance was 25,007.
  • The Miners' six-game winning streak (dating back to 2009) was snapped, and UTEP fell to 4-1 at home this season. Tulane posted its first win in the Sun Bowl after UTEP won the first two games in the series in El Paso.
  • UTEP is 10-4 at home in October under coach Mike Price and 17-10 overall in the month. The Miners have lost back-to-back games in October for the first time since 2007.
  • The Miners drop to 13-15 versus C-USA West Division teams since joining the league in 2005, including 10-4 at home.
  • UTEP is now 8-6 under Mike Price when playing at home following a road loss, including 4-1 over the last two seasons.
  • Tonight's game marked the first time under Mike Price that the Miners did not score 30 points or more the week after scoring 10 points or less.
  • The Miners allowed 14 points in the third quarter tonight after blanking each of their first four home opponents in the period. UTEP was outscored 14-7 in the third quarter tonight after holding a 66-13 scoring advantage in the period in the season's first seven games.
  • UTEP is 4-1 this season when its opponent scores first.
  • UTEP's 24:35 of possession was its fewest since compiling 21:14 in the 2008 season finale at East Carolina.
  • The 86-55 discrepancy in plays was the greatest in a UTEP game since Texas ran 83 plays to the Miners' 51 in 2009 at Austin.
  • Donald Buckram's rushing touchdown in the second quarter was his 21st as a Miner, tying him with Owen Price for sixth place on the school's career list.
  • Trevor Vittatoe passed Cincinnati's Gino Guidugli into fourth place on the all-time Conference USA passing list in the third quarter. Vittatoe now has 11,531 passing yards and Guidugli has 11,453.
  • Vittatoe tied Kansas' Todd Reesing for 20th place on the all-time NCAA passing touchdowns list with 90. He also passed Cincinnati's Guidugli and Georgia's David Greene into 18th place on the all-time NCAA passing list with 11,531 yards.
  • Kris Adams' touchdown catch in the fourth quarter extended his string of games with a catch to 32. It was the 25th TD reception of his career. Adams has scored eight touchdowns over the last six games.
  • TraVaun Nixon's third quarter interception was his third of the season, tying the most picks by a first-year UTEP player since fellow junior college transfer Adrian Ward also had three interceptions in 2003.
  • The last time UTEP had four players with double-digit tackles was at Houston in 2008. UTEP's top three tacklers - Wiston Jeune (14), Antwon Blake (10) and TraVaun Nixon (10) - all posted career-highs for stops.
  • The Miners posted a season-high seven pass break-ups, their highest game total since 2009 versus Tulsa (seven).
  • Marlon McClure posted a career-high 216 all-purpose yards tonight, bettering his previous best by one yard. He had 215 all-purpose yards at Houston earlier this year.
