EL PASO – The UTEP rifle team closed out its regular season, losing to Nevada on Saturday at the UTEP Rifle Range.

The Miners finished with its lowest aggregate score of the season, 4535, firing 2288 in air gun and 2247 in smallbore. The Miners’ previous low score was 4540, also against the Wolfpack on Oct. 10.

UTEP sophomore, Alix Moncada, was the top gun in air rifle for the match after posting 589 and Andrea Palafox fired 585, the second-highest mark of the day.

Nevada’s Dempster Christenson recorded 580 in smallbore for the top spot.

UTEP’s Josie Burzynski posted 562 and Xentri Garza made her first appearance for the Miner squad and recorded 552 in her debut.

Three of Nevada’s four shooters fired over 580 to secure the air gun score, combining for a 2326 aggregate. The Huskers shot 2283 in smallbore to finish with a combined team score of 4609.

The Miners struggled in smallbore. Palafox registered a team-high 572 and was followed by Moncada (570), Burzynski (558) and Hannah Muegge (547).
