EL PASO, Texas - Trevor Vittatoe threw five touchdown passes Saturday as UTEP routed New Mexico State 42-10.

Vittatoe had scoring throws of 18, 8, 16, 68 and 11 yards while completing 19 of 30 passes for 246 yards. He also had 54 yards rushing for the Miners (2-1).

New Mexico State (0-2), trailing 21-0, got a 3-yard touchdown run by Seth Smith with 7:43 left in the first half and a 31-yard field by Tyler Stampler with 7 seconds remaining before intermission.

But the Miners, who had 495 yards of offense - 249 rushing and 245 passing - scored 21 points in the third quarter to put the game away.

New Mexico State's Matt Christian completed 21 of 40 passes for 200 yards.
