EL PASO, TEXAS- The UTEP tennis team sent Alexandra Glebova and Ximena Fuentes out in style with a resounding 5-2 triumph against Conference USA foe UAB on "Senior Day" at the El Paso Tennis Club Monday afternoon.

The Miners (4-8, 1-1 C-USA) took the doubles point to stake the early advantage and then picked up triumphs in singles play from Rebeca Calvillo, Fuentes, Martina Trierweiler and Gabi Vazquez en route to downing the Blazers (4-7, 0-1 C-USA).

The all-around effort affords UTEP its fourth win in the past five matches. Additionally it marks the Miners' first C-USA triumph since the 2009 dual-match season.

"The ladies played very well" UTEP head coach Victor Aguilar said. "This was important for us. Ximena Fuentes did a great job to close it out."

Action commenced in doubles where the Orange and Blue registered wins at No. 1 and No. 3. to snag the early advantage. Trierweiler/Carolina DeLuca teamed up at the top slot to down the Blazers' pairing of Paula Alvarez/Evelien Strijker, 8-6, in back-and-forth match. The triumph secured the doubles point, but it would not have done so were it not for the efforts of freshmen Calvillo/Marie LeBlond at No. 3.

The white-hot doubles tandem dispatched Brittany DeFelice/Caroline Faught, 8-6, for its eight consecutive win. The pairing improves to 12-4 overall, including a stout 9-1 during dual-match play. UAB's Jenny Cape/Giorgia Romeo derailed Fuentes/Vazquez, 8-3, at No. 2 but it was of little consequence given the outcome on the other courts.

Following a brief reprieve focus switched to singles play, and the Miners continued to excel. Calvillo bested Strijker, 6-3, 1-0, retired, at No. 2 for her seventh straight win while Fuentes extended her victory streak to five with a hard-fought and well-executed dispatching of DeFelice 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6.

Trierweiler got in on the straight-set win fun by toppling Romeo, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, as did Vazquez at No. 4 singles. The freshman rolled past Faught, 6-2, 6-3. DeLuca was edged out by Alvarez, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 and Glebova got tripped up by Cape, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5 but those setbacks only made things a bit more aesthetically pleasing for the visiting side.

The Miners will return to action when they play at North Texas at 3 p.m. MDT on March 25.
