EL PASO – The UTEP volleyball team extended winning streak to six on Friday at the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. The Miners have swept four of their five opponents this season.
Junior Bridget Logan lead the Miners with her third double-digit match with 15 kills and four block assists against Cornell. While Xitlali Herrera contributed seven kills, 14 digs and six block assists.
UTEP topped the Big Red in kills, 43-25, assists 35-24, digs 52-39 and a total of nine team blocks to Cornell’s two.
UTEP vs. Niagara
Sophomore Xitlali Herrera recorded her third double-digit kill performance of the season as the UTEP volleyball team swept Niagara, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18, in the first match of the Cornell Invitational at Newman Arena.
Herrera finished with 11 kills, nine digs and eight blocks all assists. The Mexican native etched her name in UTEP recordbooks ranking second in block assists in three-set match and ties for third in total blocks.
Setter Malia Patterson posted her fourth double-double performance of the season with 32 assist and 12 digs.
UTEP secured the victory with a total of 38 kills, 37 assists, 57 digs and nine total team blocks.
The Miners will face American, Saturday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. (MDT) in the third game of the Cornell Invitational. UTEP will wrap up the two-day tournament against Delaware State at 3 p.m.
