El Paso, Texas – In its second home match of the season, UTEP (1-7) fell to No. 14 Colorado State, 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-23).
The Miners efforts were led by sophomore Dominique Millette who hammered out 11 kills and only one error to garner a .476 hitting percentage. Setter Lindsey Larson paced UTEP’s offense with 23 assists, and defensive specialist Sarah Villa controlled the defense with 13 digs.
The Rams took an early lead in the match, as they secured the first set 13 kills to UTEP’s six.
Gaining momentum, the Miners forced five errors off of Colorado State in the second set. However, it was not enough as UTEP could not find an offensive rhythm, unable to break past a .103 hitting percentage.
Needing a set win to stay in the game, the Orange and Blue kept on the heels of the Rams, as both squads traded point for point. With the score set at 23-19, the Miners went on a 3-0 run brining them only one point behind Colorado State.
The Rams responded with a kill by Kelsey Snider, but a kill from Krystal Ejesieme kept UTEP’s chances alive. With the score 24-23, UTEP looked to extend its rally with serving possession, but a kill by Marlee Reynolds gave the set and the match to Colorado State.
The Miners will round out non-conference play with the University of Denver Invitational from Sept. 19-20th in Denver, Colorado.
