EL PASO, Texas – Junior Rachael Schoenrock fired an aggregate of 1167, aided by equaling the third-best smallbore score (584) in program history (and the best by any shooter on the range Saturday), to lead the way for the UTEP rifle team in its 2015-16 home opener Saturday. Schoenrock shares the school standard for the smallbore with former standout Alix Moncada at 585.
The Miners performed well across the board, using a season-high 2277 in the smallbore and a score of 2321 in air rifle to register a solid effort of 4598. Nevada, which had slight advantages in both the smallbore and air rifle to finish with an aggregate of 4634 and edge out the Orange and Blue.
Amy Bock, the lone senior on the squad, recorded a 582 in air rifle while tallying 575 in smallbore on the way to an aggregate total of 1157. Freshman Haylee Schoenrock had another quality effort by tallying an aggregate of 1134. She used a 573 in the air rifle while eclipsing 560 in the smallbore (561) for the second consecutive match.
Junior Jessica Kinder matched Rachael Schoenrock sister for the top air rifle score (583) by a Miner on the day. She shot a 557 in the smallbore to give her an aggregate score of 1140. Monthserrat Serna fired an aggregate of 1119 to establish a career best. She shot a career-high 555 in the smallbore while using the second-best career score (564) in the air rifle to achieve the feat.
UTEP will be idle for two weeks before returning to action at Ohio State on Oct. 25.
