2014-15 Tennis Season Stats
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The UTEP women's tennis team improved to 11-4 on the season, as it defeated Conference USA foe Southern Miss, 4-2, on Sunday at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.
UTEP finished 2-0 in league play this season.
The Netherlands Connection of Daphne Visscher and Lois Wagenvoort started the day with a doubles win, 8-2, over Claudia Castella and Lisa Schneider on court No. 2. Matilda Tench and Anastasiya Sylenko clinched the doubles point with a triumph over Elena Roca and Kathrin Waidner, 8-5, at No. 3.
Sylenko improved to 3-0 on the doubles court this spring and 5-2 overall. The senior has overcome multiple injuries during her four-year UTEP career.
The Miners won three of five completed singles matches to win the overall match. Tench clinched the victory by defeating Waidner, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6. Tench improved to 10-4 in dual match singles play.
Jeannez Daniel won her match at No. 2, defeating Schneider, 6-4, 6-4. Daniel ups her record to 11-3, while Duda Santos was victorious over Alex Kitchen, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3. Santos has a team-best 12-3 record during the spring season.
Up Next
UTEP will close out the 2015 regular season at rival NM State on April 11 at 2 p.m. MT. The Miners will then compete at the C-USA Championships in Houston, Texas hosted by Rice on April 16-19.
