Powell Leads UTEP Rifle Vs. Alaska Fairbanks

EL PASO, Texas –  Freshman Bailey Powell enjoyed a career day to help lead the way for the UTEP rifle team (4600) in a home dual meet with Alaska Fairbanks (4662) at the UTEP Rifle Range Friday. The Miners shot 2271 in smallbore and 2329 in air rifle while the Nanooks finished with respective totals of 2306 and 2356.

Powell led the way for the Miners by establishing personal bests in both smallbore (570) and air rifle (590) to post a career-high aggregate (1160). She had the second-best air rifle score and third-highest overall aggregate by any shooter on the range.

Senior Rachael Schoenrock registered 574 in smallbore and 581 in air rifle to finish at 1155. Sophomore Haylee Schoenrock recorded a 565 in smallbore after firing a career-best in air rifle (586) to elevate her aggregate to the highest of her career (1151).

Sophomore transfer Maranda Nelson equaled her second-best career score in smallbore (562) while shooting 577 in air rifle to match her second-highest career aggregate (1139).

Freshman Abby Monique shot 562 in smallbore and 571 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1133. Senior Jessica Kinder represented UTEP in the air rifle, and she delivered a solid effort of 585. Freshman Mara Rouse (573) and senior Monthserrat Serna (561) also competed exclusively in air rifle.

UTEP will return to the range when it welcomes Ohio State to town Sunday. Smallbore will commence at 7:30 a.m. and air rifle will begin at approximately 10 a.m.?
