UTEP Men's Golf Begins Spring Season at Arizona Intercollegiate

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP men's golf team is set to hit the road to kick off the spring season as it heads to the Arizona Intercollegiate from Jan. 29 through Jan. 30 in Tucson, Arizona. The tournament will consist of three rounds, two being played on Monday and one on Tuesday at the Sewailo Golf Club (par 72/7,283 yards).

UTEP will tee off on the back nine at hole no. 12 when the 10:30 a.m. shotgun start commences and will begin the second round immediately after the conclusion of round one. Tuesday's pairings will be based on Monday's results and it will also go off with a shotgun. The award ceremony will take place at the Golf Club right after second rounds had concluded. It will be the 24th time the Miners have participated in the Intercollegiate.

Eighteen teams will compete for the Arizona Intercollegiate title, with UTEP joining host Arizona, Baylor, BYU, California, Denver, Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, LMU, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Diego State, Santa Clara, South Dakota State, St. Mary's, Texas A&M, UTSA and Washington on the course.

Traveling for the Miners will be newcomer Oskar Ambrosius for the first time, Santiago Castilla, Charles Corner, Ben Getman, Eduardo Gonzalez, Settavut Paradee, Nicklas Pihl, and Aaron Terrazas. UTEP lone seniors Charles Corner and Nicklas Pihl will be returning for the third consecutive year and junior Ben Getman will make his second appearance at the event. At the 2017 Arizona Intercollegiate, Phil and Corner both finished tied for 53rd at 17 over and the team finished in 13th place with a tournament total of 902.

The Miners will look to pick up right where they left off the fall season, having won its own Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational championship for the second consecutive year back in October.

UTEP has stayed ranked among the top-100 men's collegiate teams, coming in at No. 85 on Golfweek's rankings and squeezing in at No. 98 on Golfstat's scale.

Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
