EL PASO, Texas – UTEP cross country junior
Winny Koech was named the Steve Hoy UTEP Athlete of the Week after registering the top time at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. The native of Kenya ran a time of 20:00.9 in the 6K, helping the women's team place second overall on Oct. 13.
It marked the third individual title for Koech. She also placed first at the Lobo Invitational (Sept. 1) and Lori Fitzgerald Open (Sept.15). Additionally, she secured second place at the Joe Piane Invitational (Sept. 28). Koech has also been named C-USA Athlete of the Week twice this season (Sept. 4 and Sept. 18).
The Orange and Blue will head to Boca Raton, Fla., on Oct. 27 for the Conference USA Championships. Koech was the silver medalist in the 5K in 2017, while she took home the individual medalist honor as a freshman in 2016.
