BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UTEP volleyball team (3-13, 0-4), fell to UAB (10-8, 2-2) in four sets (25-17,25-18, 25-15, 25-23), 3-1, on Friday night at Bartow Arena.

The Miners were led by
Macey Austin in kills (16) and
Serena Patterson (14).
Briana Bustillos added 17 digs and
Maddie Morgan was a presence at the net with three blocks.

In the first set, UTEP jumped out to a 13-9 advantage that forced a Blazer timeout. The lead was built in large part because of the six combined kills Patterson and Austin were contributing. The Miners strung together a 6-2 run giving them a 19-11 cushion, and the Orange and Blue never looked back capturing the first set, 25-17.

After dropping the first set on their home court, UAB raced out to score the first eight points of the second set. That early spark set the tone and allowed the Blazers to even up the set count, 1-1, 25-18.

UAB once again started out strong with an 8-2 lead to begin the third set. The Blazers' quick start gave them the advantage necessary to take the set, 25-15.

The fourth set was UTEP's turn to take an early advantage when it jumped out to a 6-2 lead. The Blazers would close the gap to one point, 15-14, forcing a Miner timeout. The two teams would trade blows until the score was tied 23-23. UAB scored the next two points to claim the set and match, 25-23.
