EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (5-12) will return to the Sun City to play host to Boise State (7-6) at 10 a.m. MT Friday and UT-Tyler (6-8) at 12 p.m. MT Saturday at the El Paso Tennis Club. Admission is free. The Miners will be aspiring to build off a 4-1 neutral-site victory against Portland State (March 31) while also aiming to improve on their 3-1 home record.

The weekend action marks the start of a three-match homestand to close the regular season, with UTEP squaring off against I-10 rival NM State on "Senior Day" at 2 p.m. MT on April 13.

"We are very excited to be back home at the El Paso Tennis Club for our final three matches of the season," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We are confident coming off the win last weekend. We look to continue that this weekend."

With a win against Boise State, the Miners would secure their second two-match winning streak of the season. A weekend sweep would produce the first three-match surge since UTEP won four in a row in 2016. The Broncos are 7-6 on the year, but they are 0-5 away from home this season (0-4 road, 0-1 neutral).

Division II member UT-Tyler is 6-8 on season, including 5-5 when competing outside of Tyler (1-0 road, 4-5 neutral).

Freshman Kirsten Prelle has been the top performer on the campaign for the Miners. She is 18-8 overall, including 9-5 in dual matches while competing at the No. 1 position. In doubles action Prelle has teamed up to go 15-8, including 8-4 in the spring.

Junior Vanessa Valdez has won back-to-back matches in singles play for the first time this year in dual action. She dropped the opening set in each of the matches before rallying to secure the three-set triumph. Sophomore Milena Baigorria also tasted victory last time out.

Sophomore Erandi Martinez is second on the squad for wins (five) in dual play while Valdez, senior Yvette van Oijen and freshman Kathleen Percegona have each produced a quartet of triumphs in the spring. Freshman Rine Nozaki has been at her best at the No. 5 slot, compiling a 3-4 mark.

UTEP stands 20-23 combined in doubles action this spring, including 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
