EL PASO, Texas - UTEP track and field's
Winny Koech was named the Steve Hoy Athlete of the Week for her stellar performance over the weekend at the 2019 Conference USA Outdoor Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
The junior led the women's team to a second place finish with 102 total points, just behind Charlotte's 103.5 points. Koech took home gold first in the 10,000m posting a time of 34:49.58 and then again in the 5,000m clocking in a time of 16:42.02. She finished the competition with 20 points for the Orange and Blue.
The Kenya native ranks 35th overall in the nation and 19th in the west region in the 10,000m. The 2019 Regional competition will be held on May 23-25 in Sacramento, Calif. For each individual event contested at each of the preliminary championships competition sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition.
