Rebecca Plescia will be joining the UTEP Athletics team as Director of Marketing, Director of Athletics Jim Senter announced on Wednesday.
"Rebecca comes highly recommended by our Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Daniel Veale, who she worked with for the last two years at SMU," Senter said. "During her time in Dallas, she oversaw the management of the gameday experience for football, men's and women's basketball. She has also gathered some tremendous experience working at Ohio State, Akron and her alma mater, Ashland University. She will bring some really creative and innovative ideas to El Paso as we look to enhance and improve the fan experience."
"I am really looking forward to the new opportunities that UTEP Athletics and the city of El Paso have in store for me, and I can't wait to start working with the staff, coaches and teams!" Plescia said.
Plescia produced all football and basketball games from the booth and media table at SMU. She wrote all gameday scripts and collaborated with the video production staff, in-venue DJ, band, spirit squads, mascot and pyrotechnics. She also ensured that all in-venue sponsorship elements were fulfilled. Plescia also oversaw all marketing and promotions for women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and volleyball while with the Mustangs. She managed all promotional item purchasing and printing, including posters and schedule cards. As the primary manager for video board elements and video productions, she coordinated all video and photo shoots for men's and women's basketball, football and volleyball, while assisting with photo shoots for all Olympic sports.
Serving as a Fan Experience and Promotions Assistant at Ohio State from 2016-17, Plescia spearheaded the marketing and promotions efforts for women's ice hockey, women's soccer, swimming & diving and men's volleyball. In that capacity, she produced the 2017 Men's Big 10 Swimming and Diving Championships and helped run the on-court promotions for the 2016 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championships. She also coordinated and planned the marketing efforts for the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships, produced the 2016 OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) Football Championships and 2017 OHSAA Boys and Girls Basketball Championships, and assisted with the 2016 UnderArmour All-American Volleyball Game and International Champions Cup (professional soccer). Plescia's other duties in Columbus included regulating the game day promotions and on field recognitions for Ohio State Football and supervising over 40 students in the Buckeye Marketing Academy internship and work program.
Plescia previously spent time at Ashland University as a Sports Marketing Assistant (2011-14), and Akron as a Graduate Assistant (2015-16). She specifically worked with the men's soccer and men's basketball programs during the 2015-16 athletic year. Plescia was also heavily involved with women's basketball, football and softball, and served on the committee for the Student Athlete Awards Banquet.
The Ohio native received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Ashland University in May, 2014, and her Masters of Sport Administration from Akron in May, 2016.
Plescia will begin working at UTEP on Aug. 12.
