JACKSONVILLE, Al. – The UTEP Rifle team shot an aggregate 4570 in its loss to Jacksonville State (4636) at the Gamecock Rifle Range on Saturday. The Miners posted a 2278 in the smallbore and a 2292 in the air rifle.
"We had a strong smallbore day but not our average in air rifle," said coach
Austin Litherland. "Unfortunately, in this sport, each discipline matters."
Junior
Morgahn Warner led UTEP at the range, tied for best in the UTEP lineup for the smallbore (572) and second in the air rifle (577) for an aggregate of 1149. Sophomore
Jonna Warnken finished fourth among all competitors and first for UTEP in the air rifle discipline (580).
Senior
Samantha Miller placed tenth in the field with an aggregate of 1116.
UTEP will host Alaska Fairbanks in its next meet on Nov. 14 to kickoff Patriot Rifle Conference play.
"We will hit the range hard these next couple of months to fortify our mental game and improve our technical skills," Litherland said.
