Miners Look to Redeem Themselves at North Texas Saturday Afternoon

UTEP at North Texas Game Notes

DENTON, Texas – UTEP (6-5, 2-3 Conference USA) will take on North Texas (6-5, 2-1 C-USA) on Saturday afternoon with tipoff set for 2 p.m. MT at the Super Pit. 
 
The Miners and Mean Green will be televised on Stadium with Chris Hassel calling play-by-play and Dani Klupenger providing in-depth analysis. The contest can be heard on the home of UTEP Basketball 600 ESPN El Paso and on the UTEP Miners app with "The Voice of the Miners" Jon Teicher behind the mic in his 40thseason. 
 
North Texas' defensive effort limited UTEP to 11-of-52 shooting (21.2 percent) from the floor on its way to a 63-33 victory on Friday night. The Mean Green outmuscled the Miners on the boards, 40-24, while shooting 50.0 percent (24-48) from the field. 
 
Jamal Bieniemy led UTEP with seven points, while Efe Odigie and Christian Agnew each tallied six points off the bench. 
 
James Reese led all scorers with 16 points, while Javion Hamlet led with eight rebound and Zachary Simmons with five assists. 
 
UTEP's 33 points on Friday night are tied for the lowest in program history during the shot-clock era. The Miners scored 33 at Old Dominion on Feb. 17, 2018. The lowest in program history is 27 points at Wyoming on Feb. 17, 1979, and 31 points at Kansas State on Dec. 3, 1957. 
 
Opponents are shooting 45.0 percent (27-60) three pointers the last three games. 
 
Souley Boum, UTEP's leading scorer at 16.3 points per game, needs 15 points to hit 1,000 in his career. He scored 394 points during his freshman season at San Francisco (2017-18).
