UTEP Men’s Hoops Looks to Bounce Back at Southern Miss Saturday Afternoon

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – UTEP men's basketball will take on Southern Miss for the second consecutive day on Saturday afternoon as part of Conference USA's back-to-back scheduling. The Miners (4-3, 0-1 C-USA) and Golden Eagles (5-3, 1-0 C-USA) are set to tipoff at 3 p.m. MT in Reed Green Coliseum. 
 
Saturday's contest will mark game no. 2,500 for UTEP. The Miners are 1414-1085 all-time in program history.
 
The Miners and Golden Eagles can be heard live on 600 ESPN El Paso with "The Voice of the Miners" Jon Teicher behind the mic in the his 40th season. The contest will also be streamed on ESPN+.
 
The Miners lost a seven-point lead in the final seconds as the Golden Eagles rallied to a 74-66 win in overtime on New Year's Day. Jamal Bieniemy scored 18 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Souley Boum led UTEP with 19 points.
 
Southern Miss outscored UTEP, 14-6, in the extra period, while shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line in overtime. Overall, the Golden Eagles shot 20-of-25 from the charity stripe. Tyler Stevenson came up big in the final moments for USM. After Bieniemy gave the Miners a 60-53 lead with 1:08 remaining, Stevenson's and-1 play started a 7-0 run. Stevenson scored five of the final seven points in regulation and added six more in overtime. Stevenson also recorded his first double-double of the season on game highs in points (26) and rebounds (10). 
 
UTEP is looking for its first win in Hattiesburg since Feb. 24, 2010.
