EL PASO, Texas – UTEP rifle will host its first home and first Patriot Conference match of the season Friday, Jan. 29 with No. 1 TCU (CRCA) at 8 a.m., making it ten days short of a full calendar year since the last time the Miners competed in the UTEP Rifle Range on Feb. 8, 2020. That match was also against the Horned Frogs.
The contest will be streamed live on the UTEP Rifle Facebook page.
"The team has been really excited about coming back to the range," UTEP Rifle Head Coach
Austin Litherland said after seeing the remainder of his team's Fall 2020 schedule canceled following the Jacksonville State match on Oct. 10, 2020. "We feel lucky to still be competing. We have been putting our best shots forward in preparation for this match with TCU."
In the last Miner-Horned Frog shootout, UTEP eclipsed an aggregate score of 4600 for the second consecutive match and second time of the season. The 2019-20 UTEP MVP
Jonna Warnken fired an aggregate of 1164 while matching her career-best in the air rifle (589).
Jennifer Windle also put forward an impressive performance with a career-high aggregate of 1142 and a personal-best 564 in smallbore.
LAST TIME OUT (UTEP)
Against Jacksonville State, junior
Morgahn Warner led the Miners with an aggregate of 1149, tied for best on the squad in the smallbore discipline (572) and second in air rifle (577). Warnken placed first for UTEP in air rifle with a score of 580.
Sophomore
Amoret McCartney is tied with Warner with the team-high in smallbore (572). Windle is one point behind at 571.
LAST TIME OUT (TCU)
TCU fired a school-record 4738 in its win at The Citadel on Jan. 23 while also establishing a school-record 2355 in smallbore. Stephanie Grundsoee led the Horned Frogs in both disciplines with a 593 in smallbore and 598 in air rifle for a career-high 1191 aggregate score.
