UTEP MBB set to Host UTSA Saturday Night

UTEP vs. UTSA Game Notes

EL PASO – The UTEP men's basketball team is looking for another split in league play when it hosts UTSA on Saturday, Jan. 30. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Haskins Center.
 
The Roadrunners (8-8, 4-5 Conference USA) are coming off an 86-79 victory over the Miners (7-8, 3-6 C-USA in San Antonio on Thursday night. UTSA has won its last three games, while UTEP has dropped two in a row.
 
The Miners and Roadrunners contest is presented by Brian Burds Home Selling Team, and will be streamed on ESPN+ with Erik Elken (play-by-play) and Leonard Owens (analysis) on the call. The contest can also be heard on the home of UTEP Basketball 600 ESPN El Paso and the UTEP Miners app with "The Voice of the Miners" Jon Teicher behind the mic in his 40th season.
 
Jhivvan Jackson, C-USA's leading point getter at 20.5 per game, lit up the stat sheet with a season-high 32 points (10-20 FG), six rebounds and four assists. Keaton Wallace chipped in with 19 points and led the 'Runners with nine assists, four steals and eight rebounds. Jordan Ivy-Curry tallied 14 points on 3-of-5 shooting 3-pointers. Overall, UTSA shot over 50 percent from the floor and hit 10-of-23 from downtown.
 
The Miners received a pair of double-doubles, as Bryson Williams recorded his third of the season on 24 points and 10 boards. Williams set career highs in made free throws (14) and free-throw attempts (15). He upped his free-throw percentage to 85.7, which ranks third in C-USA. Keonte Kennedy grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the Miners, while scoring 12 points with two steals. Souley Boum registered 24 points.
 
UTEP made a season-high 22 free throws on a season most 28 attempts. The Miners hit over 40 percent from the field, but shot poorly from beyond the arc, only going 5-for-19 (26.3 percent). The Miners outrebounded the Roadrunners, 37-35, and 14-9 on the offensive glass. UTEP also outmuscled UTSA in the paint, 36-16, and only turned the ball over eight times.
 
After being down 16 points at the 7:08 mark of the first half, the Miners rallied and cut that deficit to eight points at the half. UTEP opened the second half on a 7-0 run, while outscoring UTSA 15-5 to take a 53-51 lead at the 14:16 mark before the Roadrunners took control of the game down the stretch. 
 
UTEP leads the all-time series, 11-10, however UTSA has won seven of the last eight meetings. The Miners own an 8-3 all-time mark against the Roadrunners in the Haskins Center.
