UTEP Soccer To Wrap Up 2021 Season At UAB Thursday

10/27/2021 11:17:00 AM

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP soccer team (4-11, 1-6 C-USA) will conclude the 2021 season when it plays at UAB (5-8-3, 3-3-1 C-USA) at 6 p.m. MT Thursday (Oct. 28). There will be both live stats and a live stream.

Fixture In The Lineup
Vanessa Cabello, Emerson Kidd and Cayman Tamez are the only players on the squad to have started all 15 matches on the season. Kidd (45) and Tamez (25) have earned starting nods every match of their career.

Jojo In The Clutch
Junior Jojo Ngongo has tallied a team-leading four goals on the year, with three of them holding up as match winners. She is second in the league and is 65th nationally for game-winning goals.

Sharing Is Caring
The Miners have accumulated 16 assists on 12 goals this year. Kam Fisher (three) leads the way, followed by two each from Vic Bohdan, Ayana Noel, Molly Sutherland and Cayman Tamez. The more assists to goals ratio is indicative of the possession-based style of play that the Miners have deployed on the campaign, with goals coming from a quality string of passes.

Getting Offensive
Junior Jojo Ngongo (four goals) and Jackie Soto (three goals) have accounted for more than half of the goals on the year. Vic Bohdan (two) also has multiple strikes on the season. Kam Fisher (three) tops the team in assists. Bohdan paces the Orange and Blue for shots (28) and shots on goal (11).

Going Deep
Twenty six different Miners have earned playing time this season, with 13 of them appearing in all 14 matches. There have also been 18 Miners to secure at least one start, with 10 starting at least 10 contests.

The 411 On UAB
UAB is 5-8-3, 3-3-1 C-USA on the season and is ride a three-match (2-0-1) unbeaten streak. Three different players have tallied three goals each to lead the way offensively for the Blazers while Jessica Wheeler has a team-leading two assists. Eve Beyer and Anika Toth have split time in net, with each boasting multiple wins. The duo has combined for three shutouts on the campaign.

The Series With UAB
UTEP is 6-6-4 all time against UAB, including a 2-1 win in the most-recent match-up on March 14, 2021. The Miners are also on a mini two-contest unbeaten streak (1-0-1) when facing the Blazers.

Living On The Road
For the second straight season, UTEP had more road games than home match-ups. Thursday's match at UAB is the 10th outside of El Paso (nine road, one neutral) compared to six home tilts, marking the second straight year that UTEP will have more road games than home match-ups during the regular season.

Quick Rundown On UTEP
UTEP returned 23 letter winners from last year's team (3-6-2, 2-3-1 C-USA), including nine starters. The Miners also added six newcomers. The Orange and Blue are under the direction of third-year head coach Kathryn Balogun, who sports a mark of 17-24-5 in the Sun City, including 4-11 this year.
