EL PASO – The UTEP soccer team will continue its home stand when it hosts Utah Valley on Saturday. The Miners (1-2-0) and Wolverines (1-1-0) are set to kick off at 3 p.m. at University Field.

Season and single-game tickets are available now at www.utepminers.com/tickets. Limited quantities will be sold to ensure that social distancing can be practiced at the venue.

UTEP is coming off a 3-1 victory against I-10 rival NM State in Thursday's home opener. Jackie Soto (8'), Tessa Carlin (26') and Jojo Ngongo (33') scored goals during the first half. Soto's was assisted by Ngongo and Jackie Miller, while Carlin and Kam Fisher assisted Ngongo's goal. Carlin's goal came via a penalty kick. Fisher tallied her second assist of the season, and Ngongo recorded three points for the fourth time during her career.

The Miners improved to 9-1 all-time against the Aggies.

Though the Miners won by a pair of goals, and dominated the first half against the Aggies, second-year UTEP Head Coach Kathryn Balogun wants to see improvement heading into Saturday's match. NM State outshot UTEP, 7-5, and tallied a goal during the 62'.

"We need to clean up some of the stuff going on in the back possession and we need to be good on transition because [Utah Valley's] midfield will be very, very good," Balogun said. "They have some new freshman who move the ball really well and have really good movement in the midfield that could give us some problems if we're not taking care of the ball."

Utah Valley is coming off a 1-0 OT loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 7. The Wolverines got off to a good start to open the season when they won at Florida Atlantic 5-1 on Feb. 4. After trailing 1-0 early, Utah Valley scored five unanswered goals. Sadie Brockbank (19', 79'), Heather Stainbrook (58'), Sydney Bushman (69') and Anna Pickering (88') all found the back of the net.

UTEP is 6-4 all-time versus Utah Valley. The Wolverines won the last meeting, 2-1, on Sept. 14, 2019 in Orem, Utah. Miller tallied UTEP's lone goal in the 29'. Utah Valley secured the match on a goal in the 88'. The two programs last met in El Paso on Sept. 18, 2015 with the Miners coming out on top 1-0. UTEP is 4-1 all-time versus Utah Valley at University Field.
