UTEP Soccer Continues Road Trip at Arizona Sunday Afternoon

TUCSON, Ariz. – The UTEP soccer team will face another Pac-12 program when it takes on Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 7. The Miners (0-1-0) and Wildcats (1-0-0) are set to kick off at 1 p.m. MT and will be streamed on the Pac-12 Network. 
 
Sunday's match will be the first regular-season meeting since the Miners and Wildcats played each other on Sept. 23, 1999. UTEP came out on top, 4-3, at University Field. The two programs first met on Sept. 21, 1997 in Tucson with U of A coming out on top, 1-0, in overtime. The last meeting came on April 14, 2012 in a 1-1 tie in El Paso. 
 
On Thursday, UTEP came up short during a 3-1 loss against Arizona State during the season opener in Tempe. Junior Anaya Noel netted the Miners' lone goal off an assist from junior Kam Fisher in the 88'. For Noel, it was here second career goal, while Fisher also tallied her second career assist. 
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Parrott played the entire 90 minutes and recorded a save. Junior transfer Kristen Prevosto played all 90 minutes and recorded a shot, while redshirt junior Vic Bohdan also tallied a shot. Sophomore Cayman Tamez played a career-high 90 minutes, while sophomore Emerson Kidd also played the entire match. 
 
The Miners battled the Sun Devils for the first 35 minutes before Nicole Douglas registered her 21st career goal to give ASU a 1-0 lead at the half. Douglas went on to score her 22nd career goal in the 86' to help seal the win for the Sun Devils. 
 
UTEP's next opponent, Arizona, used a dominant second half to post a 4-1 victory over Grand Canyon in its season opener on Feb. 4. The Wildcats scored three goals in the second half after being tied at the half 1-1. GCU took an early 1-0 lead in the 30' before an 'own goal' in the 34' knotted the score at one. The match went back-and-forth before Arizona's junior Ava McCray scored the go-ahead goal in the 62'. Senior Jill Aguilera was credited with the assist, while she too found the back of the net in the 70' on an unassisted attempt. Senior Jade Talley tallied the Wildcats' fourth goal on an assist from junior Grace Santos in the 80'. 
 
Last season, Arizona finished 12-7-1 and 5-5-1 in Pac-12 play. Talley was the leading point getter for Arizona last season, leading the squad with 28. Talley's 10 goals and eight assists also led the team. Aguilera (nine goals, two assists) finished second with 20 points.
