UTEP Soccer Set to Play First C-USA Road Match at Southern Miss Saturday Afternoon

EL PASO – The UTEP soccer team will hit the road for its first Conference USA road match at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. The Miners (2-2-1, 1-0 C-USA) and Golden Eagles (2-2-0, 0-1 C-USA) are slated for a 12 p.m. MT kickoff at Marshall Bell Track & Field and Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed on CUSA.tv. 
 
UTEP recently defeated LA Tech, 2-1, in OT on Feb. 28 to open league action. Since starting 0-2, the Miners are 2-0-1 in their last three matches. 
 
Emerson Kidd, who was announced the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, registered her first career goal in the 26' to take an early 1-0 advantage against the Lady Techsters. Kam Fisher's corner kick provided the assist to Kidd. Tessa Carlin's second game-winning goal of the season came during the 96' during the first overtime period. Kristen Prevosto was credited with the assist, her first in a UTEP uniform. Emily Parrott tallied five saves, while the Miners produced 11 shots with six on shots on goal. 
 
Carlin leads the squad with five points and two goals. Fisher has three points and a team-high three assists. Earlier in the season, UTEP defeated NM State, 3-1, on Feb. 11, while playing to a 0-0 2OT draw against Utah Valley on Feb. 13. 
 
Southern Miss was edged out at UAB, 2-1, in its conference lid lifter on Feb. 26. Southern Miss allowed a pair of goals in the first period (11', 36'). Hailey Pohevitz made it a one-goal match when she found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 47', but couldn't manage anymore offense. UAB outshot USM, 18-12, including 12-4 in the first half. 
 
Ariel Diaz leads Southern Miss with four points and a team-best four goals. Pohevitz has tallied three points on the season, while Jenny Caracheo has two points (goal). USM defeated Nicholls 2-0 on Feb. 3, and South Alabama 1-0 on Feb. 14. Southern Miss fell at LSU 1-0 on Feb. 19 prior to league play. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Miners own a 10-2-1 overall all-time record against the Golden Eagles. However, UTEP is 0-1-1 against Southern Miss in the last two meetings, including a 3-1 loss last season in at University Field. The Miners are looking for their first win against USM since defeating it 1-0 on Sept. 17, 2017 in Hattiesburg.
