Miners Look to Silence Owls on Friday in Boca Raton

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP soccer enters a critical portion of the Conference USA schedule with a game at Florida Atlantic on Friday at 5 p.m. MT/7 p.m. ET.
 
The Miners (3-7-3, 0-3-2 C-USA) have five contests remaining in league action, with three set to take place on the road and two at University Field.
 
FAU (6-5-3, 2-2-1 C-USA) picked up a 2-0 win last time out against Charlotte and currently sits in fourth in the conference with seven points.

ABOUT FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Bri Austin leads the Owls in numerous categories this season, including goals (5), assists (4) and shots (35). Last week, Austin was the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week after playing a part in each goal in the win against Charlotte. On the other side of things, Amanda Martin is the reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after helping the squad limit Rice to its second-lowest shot total on the year (4) and leading FAU to its sixth shutout of the year in the win against Charlotte. The six shutouts this season for FAU is tied for the league lead. In addition to Austin, Gi Krstec has tallied four goals with two assists on the campaign. Hailey Landrus is one of the primary distributors for the team with three assists. Lexi Gonzalez starts in goal for the program and has a 1.20 goals against average with 28 saves and three shutouts while facing 87 shots.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Each team has won three times in the head-to-head series, with FAU having claimed three straight after the Miners had taken the first three meetings. In Boca Raton, the Miners are 2-1 overall.
 
SCOTT STILL LEADING C-USA
Goalkeeper Mariah Scott leads the conference in multiple categories, including goalie minutes played (1,170), saves per game (4.7) and total saves (61). The minutes total is seventh in the nation and her four shutouts is third in the league.
 
CARLIN AMONGST C-USA LEADERS
Tessa Carlin ranks in the top-10 in C-USA in a pair of categories, including being tied for ninth with 10 points and tied for eighth with four goals.
 
ALL-DURABLE TEAM
Tessa Carlin, Cayman Tamez and Mariah Scott have each started all 13 games for the Miners this season.
 
TORI TAKES HER SHOT
Tori Paul has accumulated six of her shots for the season over the course of the last three games. Over that stretch, Paul has either led the team or been tied for the team lead in shots taken each contest.
 
LEWIS RETURNS
After missing a little over a month due to injury, Sophia Lewis returned and played 41 minutes against UAB last week.
 
C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
The 2022 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship will take place Nov. 2-6 at Charlotte. The top eight teams in the final league standings will participate in the event.  
 
UP NEXT
The Miners play a split week with a game at Rice next Thursday and a home tilt against Middle Tennessee on Sunday.
