Ostos Tied For Second After 18 Holes at C-USA Championship

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Playing on The Champion Course at the PGA National Resort, UTEP women's golf wrapped up the opening round of the 2022 Conference USA Championship tied for seventh on Monday.

An outstanding individual performance from Andrea Ostos highlighted opening round play for UTEP, as the product of Chihuahua, Mexico shot a 1-over par 73 to reside in a tie for second. Ostos was particularly effective after making the turn on Monday, converting on birdies on holes one, six and seven after starting her day on the back nine.

Letizia Bagnoli of Florida Atlantic is the leader through 18 holes after turning in a 2-under par 70. She is the No. 68 ranked player in Division I. The Owls are also leading the way as a team with a 303.

As a team, the Miners are even with Charlotte for seventh after shooting 314 over the first 18 holes of the event, with UTEP sitting just three strokes away from Southern Miss in fifth and seven from Old Dominion in second.

Two additional Miners are in the top-30, including Marta Romeu Chen (78) and Naomi Ramirez (80). Tijana Jovicevic Kovacic (83) was the final counting score.

UTEP ranked the best of all teams in the field on par-3 holes with a 4-over tally. The Miners also ranked second on par-4 holes with a 19-over par score.

Sophie Delfosse, the fifth participant for UTEP entering the day and the top finisher for the Miners in seven of nine events this season, was forced to withdraw from the first round. She will look to return to action on Tuesday.
