Miners Drop 3-0 Contest at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte utilized a pair of goals in the second half by Haley Shand on the way to a 3-0 win over UTEP on Sunday afternoon at Transamerica Field.

The Miners (3-6-3, 0-2-2 C-USA) kept the 49ers (3-6-2, 2-2 C-USA) off the board for the first 62 minutes despite facing nine shots over that span, as a chance by Macey Bader in the 27th minute from directly in front of the net sailed high and a direct free kick by Tash Hudson in the 28th minute missed to the right.

In the 62nd minute, Hudson found Kiara Pralle who sent a cross to Shand, who then lifted a shot into the upper portion of the net for the first goal of the game.

UTEP keeper Mariah Scott prevented a dangerous opportunity shortly after with a sliding effort to stop a look.

Scott faced 18 shots on the day, including seven on frame, saving four of them.

It was Shand again though a few minutes later who would drive a shot to her left past the keeper after an extended dribbling display in the 66th minute to make it 2-0 in favor of Charlotte. Bader received credit for the assist on the play.

Charlotte added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute from Bader on an assist by Julia Patrum.

The 49ers outshot the Miners 18-7 and had eight corners to two for the visitors.

UTEP is back at University Field next Thursday at 7 p.m. to host UAB.
