UTEP Hosts UAB on Thursday in Lone Game of Week

EL PASO, Texas – In the lone game of the week for the program, UTEP welcomes UAB to University Field on Thursday at 7 p.m.
 
The Miners (3-6-3, 0-2-2 C-USA) will welcome in a Blazers (6-2-2, 3-0 C-USA) team that is currently tied for first in the league standings.
 
Just two home games remain for UTEP this season after this week, as the team will host Middle Tennessee on Oct. 16 and North Texas on Oct. 23.
 
GAME COVERAGE
The game this week will be streamed on C-USA TV with live stats on the UTEP SIDEAM Stats Portal.
 
ABOUT UAB
UAB is tied for first in the league standings with Rice and North Texas. The Blazers have the longest current unbeaten streak in conference, having gone 4-0-1 over the last five contests. With six goals, Stella Lawson leads the offensive attack, ranking second in that category for the conference. She is joined by the dangerous Carlyn Presley as well, who has racked up five goals. From a distribution perspective, Claire Rea has four assists and Jessica Wheeler three. Eve Beyer appears to have taken over as the primary keeper after splitting time with Anika Toth earlier this season. Beyer has a miniscule 0.67 goals against average and has faced 61 shots with 22 saves. She ranks first in the conference in goals against average along with leading the way with a save percentage of .815 on the campaign. UAB was selected fifth in the C-USA Preseason Coaches' Poll and defender Asha Zuniga was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
 
SERIES HISTORY
UAB and UTEP have met 17 times previously, with the Blazers holding a lead of 7-6-4 in the all-time series. The Miners have had plenty of success against UAB in El Paso, posting a 5-2 mark.
 
PREVOSTO RETURNS
Kristen Prevosto took the field for the first time this season last week at WKU and Charlotte, logging a combined 52 minutes, including 42 at Charlotte. She missed the first part of the schedule this year due to injury.
 
SAME STARTERS
For each of the last three games, the Miners have started the same 11 players.
 
AT HOME THIS SEASON
UTEP has dropped just one game at home this year over the course of the first five contests. The Miners are 1-1-3 over that stretch.
 
SCOTT LEADING C-USA
Goalkeeper Mariah Scott leads all C-USA keepers with 55 saves. She ranks 17th nationally in total saves and 49th with four shutouts.
 
C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
The 2022 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship will take place Nov. 2-6 at Charlotte. The top eight teams in final league standings will participate in the event.  
 
UP NEXT
UTEP will also play just one game next week, traveling to Boca Raton to meet up with Florida Atlantic on Friday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. MT.
