TUCSON, Ariz. - Krista Paegle and Katie Martin were the lone pair to pick up a win against Colorado Mesa to open the Wildcat Spring Challenge Friday afternoon. The UTEP beach volleyball team (3-12) fell to CMU, 4-1, and to Santa Clara, 5-0, earlier Friday morning at Bear Down Beach.
The Miners return to the sand Saturday morning for matches against Missouri State and #18 Arizona.

Match 1: Santa Clara 5, UTEP 0
Santa Clara tabbed the first point with a win on court one and grabbed the second in the 4's. In the No. 5 spot, the Broncos sealed the match win and went on to win the remaining two matches, clinching the sweep. Ema Uskokovic and Sara Pustahija were the only UTEP pair to win their first set and go into three where the Broncos rallied to take the deciding set.

CMU was first on the board with a win on court four and clinched the match win in the 2's and 3's. Krista Paegle and Katie Martin picked up their first win as a pair on court one (21-17, 21-19) just after CMU got its fourth point on court No. 5.
