UTEP Men’s Golf set to Compete at the C-USA Championship April 24-27

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP men's golf team will tee off at the 2023 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship at Texarkana Country Club (par 72, 6969) in Texarkana, Ark., starting Monday morning.

The Miners will tee off at 9:20 a.m. CT/8:20 MT beginning on hole no. 1 with UTSA.

Making the trip for the Miners are Kristjan Burkelca (77.1 scoring avg.) who will tee off first at 9:20, followed by Greg Holmes (74.3) at 9:28, Marcus Khaw (73.4) at 9:36, Jacob Presutti (73.2) at 9:44, and Max Schliesing (72.3) at 9:52.

The 10-team field includes Middle Tennessee, defending champion Charlotte, North Texas, LA Tech, UTSA, Florida Atlantic, UAB, Rice and WKU. MT is the highest ranked program at no. 70, while Charlotte is ranked 81^st entering the tournament.

In 2022, no. 4-seed Charlotte defeated no. 3 UTSA, 3-2-0, to win its first C-USA Championship in program history.

LAST TIME FOR UTEP
The Miners are looking for their first C-USA title since claiming it in 2017 as a no. 1 seed over no. 3 Charlotte, 3-1-0, in match play.

The Miners shot an 898 (309-300-289) at the Tunica National Intercollegiate at Tunica National (par 72, 7204 yards) on April 17-18. For UTEP, it was the fifth team top-10 finish of the season out of 10 total tournaments played so far during the 2022-23 season.

Schliesing, who started the third round tied for 22^nd, placed tied 11^th at even par 216 (77-69-70). Schliesing got off to a slow start with a 77 in round one, but responded with a 69 in round two and a 70 on the final 18 holes. He finished as the top Miner for the sixth time this season.
