UTEP Prepares for Matches Against California Baptist and UIW

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP Soccer team (0-3-1) faces a split week of competition, first at CBU 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT Thursday before returning home to host UIW at 1 p.m. MT Sunday.
 
GAME COVERAGE
Live Stats for the match at CBU will be available through CBU Stat Broadcast. The home contest against UIW will be available on the UTEP SIDEARM Stats Portal. The matches against both CBU and UIW will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
QUICK LOOK AT LAST WEEK
UTEP went 0-1-1 at home last week against Abilene Christian (8/24/23) and Arizona State (8/27/23). In the first matchup of the week, the Orange and Blue kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against ACU. Seven starters played 75+ minutes in the contest. On Sunday, August 27, the Miners held the Sun Devils scoreless in the first half, before the tie was broken eight minutes into the second period. ASU later gave itself some breathing room with a goal in the 84th minute. Mina Rodriguez and Leslie Gutierrez both had shots on goal in the game.
 
STEADY HANDS
Tionna Taylor has continued to play a big role in net for the Miners. Taylor has faced 60 shots (30 on goal) and made 23 saves. Last week against Arizona State she matched her career high in saves with eight. She previously stopped eight shots against Grambling State (11/4/21) while playing for Jackson State.
 
IRON WOMEN
Emerson Kidd, Tionna Taylor, and Vanessa Cabello are the only players to have played the full 90 minutes in all four games this year, with Cayman Tamez and Ashlyn Neireiter also going the distance against Abilene Christian on Aug. 24.
 
SCOUTING CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancers are 2-1 so far in the 2023 campaign, with wins at UC Riverside (W, 4-1) and against New Jersey Institute of Technology (W, 3-1). The loss came against Colorado State (L, 0-1). Lourdes Bosch and Frida Murrieta are leading the charge with two goals apiece. Natalia Castro and Kaylee Hauck have also added to the goal tally. Starting keeper Noa Schumacher has seven saves in 20 shots faced (10 on goal). Seven players on the roster have racked up over 200 minutes.
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE LANCERS
This will be the first matchup between the Miners and the Lancers.

SCOUTING UIW
The Cardinals are 3-0 this year, having played all three matches at home. They kept three clean sheets, outscoring Rice, Prairie View A&M, and UTRGV by a combined score of 11-0. Addison Rodriguez (two goals, one assist) and Sierra Wannamaker (two goals) have been their top performers on offense. Five other Cardinals have scored as well. Netminder Makenzie Hall has recorded eight saves and no goals against in 12 shots faced. Only Hall has played the full 90 minutes in every contest.
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE CARDINALS
The Miners are 5-1 all time against the Cardinals. The most recent matchup saw UTEP win 2-0 at home on 9/8/22.
