RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UTEP soccer was clipped by California Baptist 6-0 on Thursday evening behind a hattrick from CBU's Marcella Brooks.
 
The Miners (0-4-1) kept a clean sheet through 21 minutes before CBU broke through off a free-kick goal from Lourdes Bosch. Marcella Brooks would double the advantage six minutes later. The Lancers kept up the pressure in the second half, with Jayden Ramirez tacking on two of her own in the 48th and 55th minute, while Brooks added to her tally in the 63rd and 74th minute.
 
The Orange and Blue managed four shots in the game, including two on goal. In the first half, a foul on Jana Heinen made way for a free kick by Taya Lopez. The shot went wide for a CBU goal kick.
 
The second period saw the Miners try at net three times. In the 83rd minute, Maya Vittoria went just off target. Vanessa Cabello followed suit in the 87th minute, hitting a shot to the top left corner and forcing a save from CBU keeper Noa Schumacher. Cabello had another chance in the last minute of action, sending one low to the right, but Schumacher managed to smother it.
 
The Miners are back in action Sunday, Sept. 3, when they face UIW at 1 p.m. MT at home.
