UTEP Center Andrew Meyer Named to Rimington Trophy Preseason Watchlist

8/4/2023 10:00:00 AM

NEW YORK, N.Y. – UTEP starting center Andrew Meyer was recognized to the 2023 Rimington Trophy Preseason Watchlist as announced by the committee on Friday.

Meyer is the lone center from Conference USA to land on the prestigious list.

This year, the Trophy committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow down its list to the top 40 centers. PFF grades every player on every play of every game on how well they execute their given assignment.

The redshirt senior has made 31 career starts at center, while playing in 43 games overall since joining the program in 2018. In 2022, Meyer started in 11 of 12 games played. His efforts on the line helped the Miners compile over 159 rushing yard per game (fifth in CUSA). The Miners gained a season-high 335 rushing yards against FIU, the most at the school since the 2016 season. UTEP eclipsed 350 yard of total offense in six contests, including two efforts of 500+ yards. The UTEP rushing attack gained over 2,000 yards and scored 14 touchdowns last season.

The San Marcos, Calif., native earned a 2022 All-CUSA Honorable Mention, his second career postseason accolade (2020 All-CUSA Honorable Mention).

Meyer has been a rock on the offensive line over the last three seasons as the Miners O-line has surrendered just over 1.6 sacks per game during that span.

Meyer also gets it done in the classroom, as he is a three-time CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medalist (2019, 2021, 2022). Meyer recently earned his bachelor's degree in history in December 2022 and is currently enrolled in graduate school.
