UTEP Returns Home Against Idaho, Opens League Play at FIU

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP soccer program (1-6-1) has a split week of competition as it welcomes Idaho (4-2-1) to University Field Thursday at 7 p.m. MT before heading to FIU (5-2-1) Sunday at 9 a.m. MT/ 11 a.m. ET for the Conference USA opener.

QUICK LOOK AT LAST WEEK
The Miners fell at Tulsa (4-0) and dropped a heartbreaker to Texas A&M-Commerce (3-2) last week on the road. Taya Lopez notched her second goal of the campaign and Sheyliene Patolo tallied her first in the loss to the Lions.
 
FORMIDABLE FRESHMEN
Nicole Morales tops the stat sheet in total shots (nine) while Ashlyn Neireiter leads the team in shots on goal (four).
 
PACING THE MINERS
Taya Lopez leads all players with two goals and an assist on the year. Emerson Kidd, Mina Rodriguez, Sheyliene Patolo, and Ashlyn Neireiter have also tallied a goal each. Nicole Morales and Olivia Roskos have both tacked on an assist.
 
IN THE RANKS
Tionna Taylor is leading CUSA and ranks 59th in the nation in total saves (32). She is third in conference and 34th in the country in goalie minutes played (703:41), fourth in the league and in saves per game (four), and fifth in CUSA and 91st nationally in shutouts (two).
 
SCOUTING IDAHO
Idaho has outscored its opponents 12-7 in matchups this year with goals coming from seven different players. Hannah Alfaro, Annika Farley, Jadyn Hanks, Jayd Sprague, and Izzy Thoma all have two goals, while Margo Schoesler and Kylie Hummel each have one. Alyssa Peters leads the way in assists with four, and Schoesler follows close behind with three. Kira Witte has played all seven matches in net for the Vandals, making 24 saves while allowing seven goals in. Most recently, Idaho fell 1-0 at UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 10.
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE VANDALS
The only time the Miners have faced the Vandals previously saw UTEP take the win 4-1 on 9/21/07.
 
SCOUTING FIU
The Panthers have outscored opponents 24-5 in all contests this year. Nikole Solis is leading the charge with eight goals. Kim Schneider (four), Noemi Paquin (three), Kennedy Floyd (three), and Izelle Barriere (two) round out the multi-goal scorers list. Camille Sahirul, Brealyn Viamille, Reagan Bridges, and Chinatsu Kaio each have one. Catherine Rapp, Solis, Paquin, Sahirul, and Viamille all have two assists on the year, while Dominique Marcelli, Paige Davis, Floyd, and Schneider have one assist apiece. In goal, Ithaisa Vinoly has recorded 23 saves with five goals against and Gwen Jordan has tallied one save.
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE PANTHERS
UTEP is 3-1-1 against the Panthers all time. In the most recent matchup, the sides battled to a 0-0 draw on 9/15/22.
