– The UTEP women's basketball team (2-1) will face off against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday afternoon in its first away trip of the 2024-25 season. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. MT/ 4 p.m. CT.

LAST WEEK ON...
UTEP earned its third win of the season 11/23, as it cruised to an 83-54 victory over New Mexico Highlands. The Miners shot 54.9 percent (28-51) from the field, 33.3 percent (6-18) from three, and 72.4 percent (21-29) from the foul line. Five players scored in double figures in the win, led by Ivane Tensaie with 14 points. Dunja Zecevic (13), Ndack Mbengue (12), Mary Moses Amaniyo (11), and Delma Zita (10) round out the top scorers. Mbengue pulled down a game-best eight rebounds, followed by Zecevic with six. Portia Adams handed out a game-high five assists while Irene Asensio lead the way in steals with five. Zecevic had the lone block of the game for the Miners.

Ivane Tensaie drained four threes against the Cowgirls. She has posted three or more made threes in every contest this season. Against UTSA (11/16), Tensaie tied the program record for threes in a single game with seven.

Ivane Tensaie leads Conference USA and sits third in the nation in three-pointers per game (4.25).
 
THE ADAMS IT FACTOR
Portia Adams tallied five assists against NMHU, marking a season high. It is just three assists shy of her career high (eight), which she recorded on 11/25/22 against Mississippi Valley while at Lamar.
 
*FINGER WAG* NO NO NO!
Dunja Zecevic has recorded at least one block in three straight games. It is the first time in her collegiate career that she has done so.
 
DISHING IT OUT
Delma Zita is averaging 4.0 assists per game, which places her T-3rd among Conference USA players. She also leads the league in assist/turnover ratio (2.3)
 
WELCOME TO CAREER DAY!
Dunja Zecevic (13), Ndack Mbengue (12), Mary Moses Amaniyo (11), and Irene Asensio (five) all set career highs in scoring against the Cowgirls. Mbengue's eight rebounds also marks a career best.
 
SHARP SHOOTING
The Miners are shooting over 40 percent from the field (46.0) and from beyond the arc (40.3) through four games in 2024-25. It marks the first time since the 2021-22 season that the Miners have averaged above 40.0 percent in both categories through the first four games of the campaign.
 
ON TARGET
Four UTEP players are shooting 50.0 percent or better from the floor in 2024 (minimum 10 shots attempted). Dunja Zecevic leads the team at 55.0 percent (7-13), followed by Luisa Vydrova at 54.8 (17-31), Ivane Tensaie at 53.2 percent (25-47) and Osadebamwen Igbinedion Omoruyi at 50.0 percent even (5-10).
 
BETTER THAN YOUR MOM'S TURNOVERS
UTEP has forced 20 or more turnovers in every contest so far. Opponents are averaging 23.75 turnovers per game, which is 28th in the nation.  Morehead State gave up the ball a whopping 28 times.
 
HOW MAY WE ASSIST YOU?
The Miners have registered 51 assists on 99 field goals made, meaning they are tallying an assist on over 50.0 percent of shot attempts on the season.
 
SCOUTING REPORT: TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI
The Islanders are 3-2 on the year and are following a 2023-34 season that included a 23-9 overall record, a Southland Conference Championship and NCAA tournament appearance. A&M-CC is averaging 61.4 points and 41.4 rebounds per game, while tacking on 13.6 assists, 9.4 steals, and 4.8 blocks per game. Paige Allen paces the team with 11.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.2 steals. Mireia Aguado sits second on the team in scoring with 10.8 while leading the Islanders in assists (4.2). Monae Duffy pulls down 5.4 boards per game and Nabaweeyah McGill swats a team-best 2.6 blocks per game.  Nationally, A&M-Corpus Christi is ranked in multiple categories, including bench points per game (26.4, 76th), blocks per game (4.8, 48th), field goal percentage defense (29.7, 4th), defensive rebounds per game (29.0, 39th), rebounds per game (41.4, 40th), and three point percentage defense (23.9, 40th). Individually, Allen is ranked 61st in rebounds per game (9.4) and 24th in steals per game (3.2). Jaeda Whitner sits 29th in three point percentage (52.0) and 60th in three pointers per game (2.6). McGill sits 18th in blocks per game (2.6)
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE ISLANDERS
The Miners are 3-1 against the Islanders all time. The last matchup between the two came during the 2017-18 season and saw UTEP win 69-49.
