UTEP T&F’s Pacheco Estrada, Burgher Claim Victories at Pacific Coast Invitational Thursday

LONG BEACH, Calif. – UTEP track and field opened a busy weekend of action at the Pacific Coast Invitational hosted by Long Beach State at Jack Rose Track as Julio Pacheco Estrada and Niesha Burgher raced out to victories in the 400-meter dash on Thursday.
 
Pacheco Estrada, who's ranked second in the 400 in Conference USA, clocked in a personal-best 46.71 and finished in first place out of 66 competitors. His previous best was 46.74.  
 
Niesha Burgher clocked in a 54.65 in the 400 finishing in first place out of 62 sprinters. Burgher ranks fourth in CUSA (54.37). 
 
The women's 4x100-meter relay squad composed of Oghenekaro Brume, Marissa Simpson, Burgher and Rejoice Sule finished in second place with a 44.98. The Miners rank first in CUSA (44.18). 
 
Aleks Hristov competed in a pair of events on Thursday. Hristov, who entered the weekend ranked second in the discus, threw a season-best 57.06 meters (187-2) finishing sixth overall out of 56 throwers. Hristov did the shot put for the first time this season and recorded a mark of 15.54 (51-0). 
 
Noah Jirgens registered a personal-best 56.43 meters (185-1) in the hammer throw. The freshman's previous best was 54.12 meters (177-7). 
 
Stephen Carreto clocked in a season-best 54.42 in the 400-meter hurdles. 
 
Sule competed in her first outdoor 200-meter dash and clocked in a 24.33. The freshman finished in sixth overall out of 109 competitors. 
 
Oriade Rashid clocked in a 21.53 in his first 200-meter dash this season. Rashid placed ninth out of 98 runners. 
 
Arianne Morais competed in her first shot put event of the outdoor season posting a 12.95-meter (42-6) mark. 
 
COMING UP FRIDAY & SATURDAY
Distance runners Brenda Jerop (1500m, 5K) and Salma Licon (3000m steeplechase) are taking the track at the Leopard Distance Carnival in La Verne, Calif., on Friday. 
 
Competitors from Thursday's Pacific Coast meet will continue action at the Beach Invitational on Friday. Competing for the men are Jakub Belik (high jump), Oleksandr Blonskyi (110m H, pole vault), Xavier Butler (200m, 4x100, 4x400), Jalen Cadet (100m, high jump, long jump), Stephen Carreto (400m H), Karon Dean (100m, 4x100), Kevin Hewitt (400m), Joshua Hill (400m, 4x400), Aleks Hristov (discus, hammer), Noah Jirgens (hammer), Julio Pacheco Estrada (400m, 4x400), Mathew Polk (100m, 200m, 4x100), Oriade Rashid (100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x400), Zacarias Velasquez (long jump) and Jordani Woodley (200m, 110m H, 4x100).
 
Continuing action for the ladies at the Beach Invite are Loubna Benhadja (800m, 400m H, 4x400), Oghenekaro Brume (100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x400), Niesha Burgher (4x100, 4x400), Asia Hodge (100m, 4x100), Zani Meaders (200m, 400m, 4x100, 4x400), Arianne Morais (javelin), Natalie J. Murillo (discus, hammer), Esther Osisike (shot put, discus), Alla Parnov (pole vault), Marisa Simpson (200m, 100m H, 4x100), Rejoice Sule (4x100, 4x400), Princess Uche (200m, 400m, 4x400) and Karen Villa Medina (100m H, long jump). 
 
The remaining distance runners will see action at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Cougar Stadium as Ruth Jerubet (1500m), Maxwell Kipkosgei (800m, 1500m), Kenneth Talavera (800m, 1500m) and Aron Tanui (800m, 1500m) will compete on Friday and Saturday.
