EL PASO, Texas –
The UTEP soccer team (3-4-3, 0-1-1 CUSA) fell 2-0 to Middle Tennessee (4-6, 1-1 CUSA) Thursday evening at University Field.

The Miners outshot the Blue Raiders 24-5, including 7-4 in shots on goal. They team also earned six corners Middle Tennessee's one. Mina Rodriguez led the team with five shots (one on goal), followed by Ana Quintero who registered four. Angelina Amparano made two saves in net.

The 24 shots are a season high for UTEP, besting the previous high of 21 shots, set against Kennesaw State.

"Each game is a comparison to last year, and it's clear we've moved on. The only thing we are missing is finding the back of the net," Head Coach Gibbs Keeton said. "In situations like these goals change the game and unfortunately, regardless of how many shots we took, we were unable to impact the game in a way that we know we can."

The Miners tallied six shots in the first period, including three on goal. Hayden McMillan nearly had the opener in the 14th minute, but Blue Raider keeper Demi Gronauer was able to get her hands on it. Later, Rodriguez and Ally Stickney also had shots on goal, but Gronauer was up to the task twice more.

The visitors took the lead in the 30th minute, when Idun Kvaale scooped up a pass from Manon Lebargy and hit a lofted long ball over Amparano's head.

UTEP kept up the pressure in the second period, registering a whopping 18 shots, including four on frame. McMillan, Taya Lopez, Eve Barry, and Sheyliene Patolo all forced saves from Gronauer, but could not hit the back of the net.

Middle Tennessee notched a second goal in the 55th minute when Lebargy put in a close-range shot. Kvaale and Sadie Sterbenz earned assists on the goal.

The Miners kept up a furious pace, but were not able to find a goal despite six shots and a corner kick in the final 10 minutes of action.

The Miners return to University Field Sunday (9/29) when they take on WKU. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. MT.
