LAS CRUCES, N.M. -
The UTEP women's basketball team (8-6, 1-2 CUSA) was upended by NM State (9-7, 2-1 CUSA) 65-49 Saturday afternoon. The Miners committed a season-high 27 turnovers in the contest, which the Aggies converted into 27 points.

UTEP shot 40.9 percent (18-44) from the field, 18.2 percent (2-11) from distance, and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the charity stripe. The Miners registered 31 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and one block in the game.

Portia Adams was one rebound shy of a double-double, putting up a team-high in both points (10) and rebounds (nine). Ndack Mbengue and Ivane Tensaie each posted nine points and Mbengue tacked on eight rebounds to her tally. Irene Asensio dropped eight points and hit both of UTEP's made threes.

Delma Zita once again led the Miners in assists with three, followed by Adams with two. Mbengue, Adams, Luisa Vydrova, and Aaliyah Davis each notched one steal while Mbengue also swatted the lone block in the game.

"Molly Kaiser was a big difference-maker for them, scoring 32 points," Head Coach Keitha Adams said. "We struggled offensively today, and we turned the ball over 27 times. So, our turnovers and our ability to score were really costly for us."

It was back and forth to start the contest, with NM State holding the slight 13-11 advantage at the end of the opening quarter. Vydrova led the Miners with three points and three rebounds.

The Miners got cold in the second period, allowing the Aggies to open up a 16-point lead, 35-19, by the halftime whistle. Vydrova continued to pace the team with five points.

UTEP shot 36.8 percent (7-19) from the floor and 55.6 percent from the foul line in the first half. The Miners only shot one three-point attempt in the opening two periods, but it missed the target. They pulled down 14 rebounds while tallying one assist and three steals.

The Orange and Blue closed the gap to 10 by the end of the third, thanks in part to two made threes from Asensio. Mbengue led the Miners with nine points at the end of the period.

UTEP couldn't keep the momentum up, however, and NM State ran away with the 16-point victory.

NM State shot 37.3 percent (22-59) from the field, 42.1 percent (8-19) from beyond the arc, and. 65.0 percent (13-20) from the foul line in the contest. The Aggies tallied 28 rebounds, 12 assists, and 10 steals. Molly Kaiser went off for a game-high 32 points to lead NM State while Diarrah Sissoko also put up double digits with 11. Fanta Gassama led on the glass with 12 rebounds while also snagging game-best four steals. Sianny Sanchez-Oliver dished out four steals to lead the Aggies.
