EL PASO, Texas -
The UTEP women's basketball team (9-10, 2-6 CUSA) fell to WKU (15-5, 6-2 CUSA) 65-59 Thursday evening in the Don Haskins Center. Despite the Miners coming back from as many as 13 down to tie it at 59 late in the fourth, the visitors ran away with it in the final minutes.

UTEP shot 40.4 percent (23-57) from the floor, 23.8 percent (5-21) from distance, and 88.9 percent (8-9) from the foul line in the contest. The Miners posted 37 rebounds, 13 assists, four steals, and one block in the game.

Ivane Tensaie led all players with 18 points, half of which came from beyond the arc. Luisa Vydrova and Dunja Zecevic also scored in double figures with 10 apiece.

Vydrova was a rebound shy of a 10-point, 10-rebound performance, pulling down a game-high nine boards. Ndack Mbengue was also just shy of a double-double, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Delma Zita dished out a game-high five assists, followed by Portia Adams with three. Zita also snagged a team-best two steals. Zecevic swatted UTEP's lone block of the contest.

"Western Kentucky is a good team; they've won five games in a row. We got ourselves back in it at 59-59, but gave up an offensive rebound and let them go up two," Head Coach Keitha Adams said. "That rebounding is hurting us, it has for several games. We needed to be able to make some plays and get some stops down the stretch, but we didn't."

It was a tight matchup at the start, but WKU managed to open up a six-point lead, 21-15, by the end of the first period. Adams led the Miners with six points.

The visitors stretched their lead to nine, 33-24, in the second quarter. Tensaie paced UTEP with 10 points in the half.

The Miners shot 38.5 percent (10-26) from the floor, 9.1 percent (1-11) from beyond the arc, and 100.0 percent (3-3) from the foul line in the first half. They pulled down 13 rebounds while tallying five assists and three steals.

With the help of three made threes, UTEP outscored the Lady Toppers 20-18 in the third, but WKU managed to keep a 51-44 lead by the end of the period. Mbengue had eight rebounds to lead the team.

The Miners managed to pull ahead by two late in the fourth, but WKU went on an 8-0 run over the final two minutes of action, sealing the 65-59 win.

The Lady Toppers shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field, 26.7 percent (4-15) from deep, and 78.9 percent (15-19) from the foul line. They registered 32 rebounds, 11 assists, eight steals, and three blocks in the game. Alexis Mead and Destiny Salary shared the team-lead in both scoring and rebounding, each dropping 15 points to go with seven boards. Acacia Hayes and Zsofia Telegdy followed closely with 13 apiece. Hayes also tallied team-highs in assists (four), steals (three), and blocks (two).
