EL PASO, Texas – UTEP Volleyball swept Texas Southern, 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-16), Friday afternoon on day two of the Sun City Classic at Club Memorial.
UTEP improves to 7-1 on the season while Texas Southern drops to 1-8.
MATCH SUMMARY
UTEP delivered a dominant performance in its sweep of Texas Southern, controlling each set with steady offense, tough serving, and an imposing block. The Miners forced the Tigers into long scoring droughts and capitalized on miscues while keeping a consistent rhythm at the net. With the 3-0 victory, UTEP maintained its strong start to the season and carried momentum forward from its home opener.

ONE | UTEP used a strong start at the net to establish momentum, with early kills fueling a 7-3 advantage that forced a Texas Southern timeout. The Miners extended their lead with a serving ace and multiple TSU errors, eventually pushing ahead 18-10. UTEP continued to dominate at the net, building a commanding 23-12 cushion. Despite a late Tiger push, UTEP held on and closed the set, 25-17, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
TWO | The Miners came out fast again, racing to a 5-1 lead highlighted by back-to-back kills and a service ace. Texas Southern called an early timeout, but UTEP maintained control with a balanced attack and multiple blocks at the net. The Miners strung together another big run out of the second TSU timeout, stretching the lead to 19-10. From there, UTEP cruised to a 25-13 win, going up 2-0 in the match.
THREE | Texas Southern grabbed the first two points of the frame, but UTEP quickly answered with an ace and a string of kills to flip the score. The Miners controlled the net with multiple blocks while capitalizing on Tiger errors to surge ahead 13-6. UTEP continued to roll, using a combination of aces, kills, and steady blocking to extend its lead to 21-11. Though TSU held off three match points late, the Miners finished strong with a kill for a 25-16 win and a clean sweep.

UTEP closes out the Sun City Classic on Saturday, Sept. 13, as it takes on Oral Roberts at 12:30 p.m. MT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
