EL PASO, Texas – No. 17 UTEP Rifle squared off against third-ranked Alaska Fairbanks on Friday at the UTEP Rifle Range, with the Nanooks claiming a 4722-4670 victory.
UTEP posted a team score of 4670, highlighted by a 2310 in smallbore and a 2360 in air rifle. Alaska Fairbanks recorded a 2338 in smallbore and a 2384 in air rifle on its way to the 52-point win.
The Miners were paced by a pair of freshmen.
Alessandra Cleveland led UTEP in aggregate scoring with a 1174 while also posting the top smallbore score on the squad at 585. Fellow freshman
Gracie Robinson turned in the team's best air rifle mark with a 593 and finished third overall among Miners with a 1170 aggregate.
Kameron Wells followed closely behind Cleveland for the team lead, tallying a 1173 aggregate. Robinson's 1170 was next, while
Kennedy Wells contributed a 1168.
Xan Keel added a 1164,
Julia Czernik recorded a 1161,
Molly Mitchell shot a 1152 and
Paige Hildebrandt rounded out the lineup with a 1150.
Alaska Fairbanks was led by Marshall Schmidt, who produced the top aggregate score of the match at 1182. Schmidt edged Cleveland for the highest smallbore total by a single point, 586-585. Sadie Palfrey paced all shooters in air rifle with a 597.
