UTEP Men’s Golf Ties Seventh on Final Day at the 49th John A. Burns Intercollegiate Saturday

FINAL RESULTS

LIHUE, Kaua'i – UTEP men's golf moved up a pair of spots and finished tied for seventh place, and Braden Smith finished in the top 10 on the final day at the 49th John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by Hawai'i on the Ocean Course at Hokuala (par 70 | 7,098 yards) on Saturday.
 
UTEP (281-285-281—847) rebounded with a 1-over par 281 final round and tied with St. Mary's, CA (286-274-287—847), which dropped a spot. Loyola Marymount (276-276-278—830) maintained its lead throughout the weekend to capture the team title. #32 Texas A&M (277-275-284—836) was tied for the lead after 36 holes, but shot 4-over in the final round to finish third. #38 UNLV (281-274-279—834) moved up a spot for runner-up, and host Hawai'i (284-305-389—878) finished in last place. 
 
The Miners shot 11-over on par-3 holes (3.18 average) and tied second with Texas A&M. UTEP tied for eighth with 42 birdies and tied ninth with 165 pars. LMU led the field with 55 birdies, while UNLV paced with 182 pars. St. Mary's recorded a field-most four eagles. 
 
Braden Smith (67-70-71—208) notched his second career top-10 finish with a tied-for-10th effort. Smith tallied 14 birdies, tying for second most in the field. Smith's 208 also tied his career-best 54-hole score. It's also Smith's second time finishing as the Top Miner. 
 
Dylan Teeter (68-73-67—208) tied with Smith after making a big leap, moving up 16 spots. Teeter penciled in a 3-under par 67 in the final round. Teeter recorded nine birdies, including five in the final 18. Teeter tied for eighth amongst the field with 38 pars. 
 
Patrick Foley (75-69-72—216) moved up a spot to tie for 44th. After not penciling a birdie in round one, Foley connected on five in the final two rounds. Foley led the Miners and ranked tied for fifth with 39 pars. 
 
Marc Keller (75-73-71—219) moved up 18 spots to tie for 58th, after shooting 1-over. Keller registered seven birdies. Valentin Luna (71-79-82—232) recorded the Miners' lone eagle (hole 2, round 1) and tallied seven birdies. 
 
Loyola Marymount's #115 Trevor Algya (67-71-64—202) darted nine spots to take home the individual crown after firing a 6-under par 64. San Diego State's Harry Takis (68-70-65—203) moved up eight spots and finished a stroke behind the leader. Cal's Ziqin Zhou (69-69-66—204) climbed seven spots and tied for third with New Mexico's #54 Mesa Falleur (70-66-68—204). Algya tied for the field lead with two eagles and tallied 14 birdies. Utah's Sergio Jimenez (t-7th, 66-69-72—207) led the field with 16 birdies. Cal's Sihao Cong (t-21st, 71-71-70—212) paced the field with 42 pars.

UTEP will return to action when the Miners take the links at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate hosted by Stetson in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the LPGA International Golf Club on March 2-3.
