UTEP Women’s Golf Finishes Tied for Ninth at Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – UTEP women's golf finished tied for ninth at New Mexico's Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Course (par 72 | 6,354 yards) on Tuesday.
 
The Miners (289-303-303—895) finished at 31-over par, tying Nevada for ninth in the 13-team field. UNLV (283-287-284—854) claimed the team title at 10-under par, edging Pepperdine (283-283-289—855) by one stroke. Host New Mexico (280-289-292—861) finished third at 3-under par.
 
"I am fairly pleased with how we competed this week," head coach Steve Sims said. "We have a very deep team, and it's nice to see some of the freshmen get some playing time. I'm looking forward to Texas Tech next week and seeing us continue to improve."
 
Luciana Origel (69-76-75—220) was the top Miner for the ninth time in her career, finishing tied for 20th overall at 4-over par. Origel carded a career-low 3-under 69 in the opening round and recorded eight birdies during the tournament.
 
Taline Kyoumjian (72-75-76—223) tied for 34th at 7-over par.
 
Camila Echavarri (71-75-80—226) tied for 41st at 10-over par in her collegiate debut. Echavarri recorded 11 birdies during the tournament.
 
Blanca Yrizar (79-77-73—229) tied for 49th at 13-over par. Yrizar recorded eight birdies and closed the tournament with a 1-over 73.
 
Atikan Cherdchoo (77-79-79—235) tied for 68th at 19-over par.
 
Essi Ekholm, competing as an individual in her collegiate debut, finished 48th at 12-over par (80-78-70—228). Ekholm closed the tournament with a 2-under 70, the lowest final-round score by a UTEP golfer.
 
Pepperdine's Kylee Choi (68-67-71—206) earned individual medalist honors at 10-under par. Montana State's Eva Heinz (69-73-68—210) finished second at 6-under, while New Mexico's Ausanee Udkamtiang (70-69-73—212), New Mexico's Ava Cepeda (68-72-72—212) and Pepperdine's Irene Kim (72-70-70—212) tied for third at 4-under.

The Orange and Blue are back in action next week when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, to compete in the Red Raider Invitational, hosted by Texas Tech, September 23-24.
