Garrison Wheatley will begin his first season with the Miners as an assistant offensive line coach in 2026.
Wheatley, who broke into the coaching ranks, recently played on the offensive line at Norfolk State from 2022 to 2024. The native of Johns Island, S.C., started in 26 of 28 games played. In 2024, Wheatley started in 10 of 11 games played and anchored an NSU offensive line that powered the Spartans to 283 rushing yards against Sacred Heart and 257 yards against Virginia State. He allowed just one sack while grading out at over 88 percent. Wheatley was selected to the All-MEAC Preseason second team and named to the NSU AD Honor Roll for the fall semester. In 2023, Wheatley started in all 11 games and was named the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week twice. Before going to Norfolk State, Wheatley played at Hocking College in 2021.
