Jameel Erving

Jameel Erving is in his second year will serve as a graduate assistant during the 2017 season. Erving will work with the linebackers during the upcoming campaign. 

Erving played the defensive back position for the Miners from 2013-14. During his senior season, Erving played in 12 games, making six starts. He ranked fifth on the team with 43 tackles, helping the Miners win seven contests to earn a bid to the New Mexico Bowl. Erving recorded his first interception in a UTEP uniform off his own tipped pass late in the game that helped seal a win over Middle Tennessee during the 2014 regular-season finale. 

Erving started his collegiate career at Riverside City College (2011-12). He registered 44 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in 2012, helping the team to a 9-2 record and a Golden State Bowl victory over L.A. Harbor. 

The Fontana, Calif., native played at Summit High School. During Erving's senior season he caught 32 passes for 397 yards and five total touchdowns, while ranking second on the team with three interceptions.
