Nick Ast will begin his second season as a graduate assistant on offense for a second season in 2023. 

Ast transferred to UTEP, playing his final collegiate season in 2021. He played all 13 games during a seven-win campaign with a New Mexico Bowl appearance. 

Previously, Ast played at Kansas State where he was first team Academic All-Big 12 in 2019. He saw time in five games as he served the second half of the season as the primary backup quarterback. Ast completed all three pass attempts for 28 yards against Bowling Green. He also had one rush for two yards against Kansas.
