Remington Rebstock currently serves as the secondary coach for the Miners as he enters his second season under UTEP head coach Dana Dimel in 2019.
UTEP’s pass defense (198.9 yards per game) ranked fifth in Conference USA. The Miners also allowed the second least completions (203) and pass yards (2,387) in C-USA. UTEP opponents averaged 26.8 attempts per game, which ranked no. 1 in the league.
Rebstock directed a pair of solid corners during the 2018 season, as senior Nik Needham wrapped up his UTEP career on a strong note. Needham signed a free-agent deal with the Miami Dolphins after he finished his career as UTEP’s all-time leader in pass breakups with 33. Needham tallied 62 stops with nine breakups and an interception, earning a C-USA Honorable Mention.
Kalon Beverly, UTEP’s other senior cornerback, finished his career at UTEP with 20 breakups and four interceptions. Beverly registered 47 tackles and led the Miners with a pair of interceptions in 2018.
Rebstock came to El Paso from Oklahoma State University, where he assisted coaching the defensive secondary as a graduate assistant. During his tenure at Oklahoma State, the Cowboys accomplished three consecutive 10-win seasons for the first time in school history. Rebstock helped guide the Cowboys to three straight post-season bowl games, including a win in the 2017 Camping World Bowl against Virginia Tech, an Alamo Bowl victory against Colorado in 2016, and an appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss in 2015.
During his time with Oklahoma State, the Cowboy defense led the Big 12 conference in many categories but specialized in creating turnovers. The defense was never outside of the top three in the conference in creating turnovers, including the 2016 campaign, in which they led the Big 12 in takeaways.
Rebstock helped train multiple Cowboy defensive backs who went on to play in the NFL (Michael Hunter Jr. – cornerback currently playing for the Denver Broncos and previously for the Jets and Giants, Kevin Peterson – cornerback from Wagoner HS in Oklahoma, currently playing for the Los Angeles Rams and Linzy Pipkins – cornerback from Mansfield HS in Texas, currently playing for the Green Bay Packers, Ashton Lampkin – cornerback from Dunbar HS in Ft. Worth, Texas, who went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, Jordan Sterns – safety from Cibolo Steele HS in San Antonio, Texas, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, Tre Flowers – safety from Judson HS in Converse, Texas, who finished his career at Oklahoma State in 2017, and was named first team 2017 All-Big 12 defensive back).
Prior to his time in Stillwater, Rebstock spent five seasons coaching defense at Kansas State. Rebstock served in a variety of roles at Kansas State. These roles include assisting with the defensive ends as a student-assistant in 2010 and 2011, working with the Wildcat defensive backs as graduate assistant in 2012, 2013, and 2014, and co-director of recruiting for the Wildcats.
During Rebstock’s tenure, the Wildcats experienced success both on-and-off the football field, achieving a no. 1 ranking in the BCS Championship poll, five-straight bowl game appearances, and led the Big 12 conference in graduation rate.
The 2011 Wildcat defense was tremendous and led the team to an appearance in the AT&T Cotton Bowl against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
With Rebstock’s help, the Wildcats were Big 12 Champions in 2012, and earned a spot in the BCS Fiesta Bowl against Oregon. The K-State defense finished first in Big 12 in scoring defense as the Wildcats yielded only 22.1 points per game. The Cats also finished second in the conference, and 10th in school history, in fewest rushing yards allowed per game. In addition, the Wildcat’s 376.5 yards allowed per game was the third-fewest in the conference.
During Rebstock’s time at Kansas State, he helped coach multiple NFL talents (Randall Evans – cornerback from Palmetto HS in Miami, FL, who was drafted in 2015 by the Philadelphia Eagles, and later played for the San Diego Chargers, Nigel Malone – cornerback from City College of San Francisco who was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and later played for the Denver Broncos, Bubba Chapman – cornerback from City College of San Francisco in San Francisco, CA, who was signed by the Indianapolis Colts, Ty Zimmerman – safety from Junction City HS in Kansas, who was signed by the New Orleans Saints, Tyson Hartman – safety from Kapun Mt. Carmel HS in Kansas, who played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Morgan Burns – cornerback from Trinity HS in Wichita KS, who was signed by the Tennessee Titans, Meshak Williams – defensive end from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, who was the big 12 defensive linemen of the year in 2012, and was signed by the Baltimore Ravens, Ryan Mueller – defensive end from Overland Park KS, who was the big 12 defensive linemen of the year in 2013, and played for San Diego Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles).
A product of El Dorado, Kan., Rebstock achieved a Master’s Degree in Economics from Kansas State University with a 3.8 GPA, as well as a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics from KSU. Coming out of El Dorado High School, where Rebstock was a first team All-State defensive back selection, he accepted a scholarship at Hutchinson Community College before electing to transfer to Butler Community College to earn an associate’s degree.
