Seth Newsome was named graduate assistant-defense ends at UTEP in July of 2021.
He joined the Miners from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he was defensive line coach for the 2020 season. He coached two Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) All-Conference players (Austin Carter and Damien Lowery). Lowery was a first team All-American and the SWJCFC Defensive Player of the Year. Five members of his defensive line received multiple Division I scholarship offers.
Previously Newsome was assistant offensive line coach at Greensboro College and defensive line coach at Susquehanna University in 2020.
Newsome grew up in Stafford County, Va. He is one of nine children (seven boys, two girls). After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a rifleman in the infantry. After serving, he enrolled at LSU in the fall of 2014 on his G.I. Bill, and walked on to the football team to play for then-head coach Ed Orgeron in June of 2016. Newsome spent four years as a member of the Tiger defensive line, performing under defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.Â
Newsome graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from LSU in 2019.Â
