2017 Athlon Sports Preseason All-C-USA Fourth Team

2018 (SENIOR): Missed entire season due to injury. 

2017 (JUNIOR): Made 10 starts in 11 contests played, missed one game due to injury and one start due to ‘Senior Day’ … offensive line allowed zero sacks against WKU and UTSA … O-line allowed one sack at no. 7 Oklahoma and at North Texas … running game hit 100 yards or more in seven contests while rushing touchdowns were scored in the first six games of the season … Miners rushed for season-high two touchdowns against UTSA … Miners rushed for season-most 164 yards and a score against LA Tech, in which Joshua Fields hit a career-high 137 yards … Miners rushed for 163 yards and a score against WKU.

2016 (SOPHOMORE): Started all 12 games, getting the nod at the center position the first five games and starting the final seven games at the right guard position … played on an offensive line that paved the way for Aaron Jones to rush for a single-season program-record 1,773 yards, while Jones also became UTEP’s all-time leading rusher … Miners averaged 185.5 rushing yards per game and scored 20 touchdowns on the ground … the offensive line yielded 22 sacks (1.83 per game), ranking in the top half of Conference USA … capped campaign with a career-high 555 yards of total offense, including a career-best 384 yards rushing (most since 1983) and four scores during a victory against North Texas … opened season with 518 yards of total offense against rival NM State, while rushing for 289 yards … rushed for 323 yards against Houston Baptist … followed with 237 yards rushing at Florida Atlantic.

2015 (FRESHMAN): Played in five contests at the center and right guard positions … saw action against Incarnate Word when the Miners passed for a season-high 280 yards and a pair of scores during the victory … played during the win over Florida Atlantic where the Miners threw for 271 yards and rushed for another 137 … saw time against Texas Tech, as UTEP gained 414 total yards (second-most during 2015).

2014: Redshirted.

PRIOR TO UTEP: A two-year starter for the Panthers ... earned a spot on the 2013 Dave Campbell's Texas Football Super Team third team ... gave up zero sacks during the 2013 campaign, garnering All-State Honorable Mention honors ... named to the 2013 All-District 2-5A Superlatives first team and 2012 All-District 2-5A Superlative second team ... an All-Region Football honoree, a All-Permian Basin candidate and a three-time Academic All-District recipient ... played baseball for two seasons.

PERSONAL: Full name is Derron Lee Gatewood ... son of Kevin and Denisa Gatewood ... has one brother and one sister ... born in Odessa, Texas ... graduated May 2018 with a degree in kinesiology ... pursuing Master's in Leadership Studies.
