Biography

Drew Thomas will serve as a graduate assistant in 2015. Thomas will fulfill duties under Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations Nate Poss.

Thomas was with the Miners from 2008-12 at the cornerback position, making 28 starts in 40 games played (2009-12). The native of Chicago, Ill., redshirted in 2008 but made an impact, as he was selected UTEP's Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year. Thomas ended his career with 176 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, 18 breakups and four fumble recoveries.

In 2012, Thomas produced his most successful season, ranking second on the team in total tackles (81), and ranking first on the squad in solo stops (48). He tallied seven breakups with an interception and two fumble recoveries during his senior campaign. Thomas recorded an interception and a fumble recovery at Wisconsin. He registered a career-high 15 tackles during a homecoming victory over Tulane. Thomas concluded his collegiate career with a 13-tackle performance against Rice in the Sun Bowl.

During his junior season, he produced 49 stops with six pass breakups. Thomas established his career best with three pass breakups against Houston.

The St. Louis Rams signed Thomas as an undrafted free agent after the 2012 season. He played in three preseason games in 2013, tallying four tackles, an interception and a breakup.

In 2014, he played for the Kiel Hurricanes in Kiel, Germany and led the team to the European Football League Bowl title.
